Solitary Samhain Ritual by Vanessa Armstrong

You will need:

A black or orange candle (or both)

Either: tarot cards, scrying mirror, oracle cards, pendulum. If you don’t have any of those, you can focus on your lit candle.

Circle Casting:

As we gather from far and wide

Energies entwined and held fast

By the powers of the elements that reside

This circle now is cast.

Quarter Calls:

Guardian of the East, Element of Air

Your aspects are thinness, darkness and motion

As the veil thins, allow us communication with the otherworlds

Hail and Welcome!

Guardian of the South, Element of Fire

You bring change, purification and destruction

As the flames clear the old, we make way for the new

Hail and Welcome!

Guardian of the West, Element of Water

You are flowing, cleansing

You are the feeling of friendship and love that pours over us when we are with loved ones.

At this Samhain we remember our loved ones that are departed.

Hail and Welcome!

Guardian of the North, Element of Earth

You are the realm of wisdom, strength and growth –

The womb from which all life springs.

When the time comes for us to join our ancestors,

It is to the earth that we are interred

Hail and Welcome!

Samhain is the last of the 3 harvests – a cross quarter day between the Autumn Equinox and Winter Solstice. It is a day of celebration for witches as it is our new years eve.

It’s a time when the veil between the worlds is thin – a time to honour and remember our ancestors. A time for connecting with them – a time for divination.

Its also when we are approaching the dark half of the year – we reflect upon the past year – what we have achieved, what didn’t work and what we would we like to achieve in the new year.

Spend some time decluttering – both physically and mentally – make way for new ideas, projects and goals.

I personally have a good clear out indoors – tidy, deep clean, sort out things for the charity shop, I have also by now tidied my garden in preparation for its winter slumber.

I also, if I can, hold a dumb supper. Details of a dumb supper can be found on the Kitchen Witch blog - https://www.kitchenwitchhearth.net/post/the-dumb-supper-by-vanessa-armstrong

Decorate your altars with colours of orange and black, photos of your ancestors, leave offerings of apples, berries and nuts. Carve a pumpkin.

I thought it would be a nice idea to do some divination.

Light your candle and be still for a moment to focus on the flame.

Think of a question you may have – it may be “what you can expect in the year ahead”, “ what do you no longer need and doesn’t serve you for your higher good?”

Draw a tarot card, an oracle card, or a rune. Or ask your pendulum the question. Look into your scrying mirror if you have one of those. Or if you don’t have any of those things, focus on the candle flame, ask the question you may have and see if any words or messages come to you

When you are ready…

Guardian of the North, Element of Earth

Thank you for giving us wisdom, strength and growth –

And for your presence in our ritual today

Hail and Farewell!

Guardian of the West, Element of Water

Thank you for your cleansing and love

For joining us as we remember our loved ones

Hail and Farewell!

Guardian of the South, Element of Fire

Thank you for your presence in our ritual today

For clearing out the old, so we may make way for the new

Hail and Farewell!

Guardian of the East, Element of Air

Thank you for your presence in our ritual today

For giving us the gift of communication to our loved ones

Hail and Farewell!

We have gathered from far and wide

Energies entwined and held fast

By the powers of the elements that reside

This circle is now uncast

Blessed Be!
