As Valentine's Day falls in February, I felt strongly drawn to pick Rose Quartz for this month, after all it is known as the crystal of love, but like the emotion itself, Rose Quartz has a lot more going on than just romance.
Rose Quartz is a silicon dioxide stone with manganese impurities. It has a hardness of 7. Like other members of the quartz family, it can be cleansed in water, smudged or buried in soil.
Rose Quartz is one of the most common of the Quartz crystals, but don’t be fooled by its pale pink colour and gentle energy, love is arguably the most important and powerful emotion in the world, some people spend their whole lives looking for it, there are millions of songs, books and films on the subject and there are many different types of love.
As a stone of love, Rose Quartz is strongly connected with the heart chakra, opening, healing and strengthening it. When the heart chakra is aligned it is associated with self-love, love for others, compassion, empathy, beauty, forgiveness and joy.
Calming, nurturing and comforting, Rose Quartz is the perfect stone to help you cope when struggling with stress, grief, trauma or anxiety. Just sitting quietly while holding a small tumble stone or keeping one on you can dissolve negative energy, restore harmony and bring you a deep sense of peace and contentment.
If your symptoms are severe or don’t ease after a little while, then please see a medical practitioner. Rose Quartz can still be used alongside prescription medication.
Rose Quartz’s potent loving energy can heal heartache and dissolve emotional wounds while encouraging self-love, forgiveness and trust.
Keep Rose Quartz beside your bed if you are having problems sleeping, its soothing energy encourages a good night's sleep and prevents nightmares. It works well with sleepless children too.
If you want to attract love into your life, surround a pink candle with Rose Quartz crystals and pink or red rose petals and burn on a Friday the day of Venus Roman goddess of Love.
To strengthen the love between you and your partner surround a photo of you both with Rose Quartz tumble stones.
Known as a mother’s stone, Rose Quartz can be added to spell bags for fertility. Hold a Rose Quartz crystal to your stomach when you’re pregnant to create a close bond with your baby and take it into hospital with you, it will calm your nerves, soothe the baby and ease any post-natal depression symptoms. Again, if your symptoms are severe, please see a medical practitioner.
Keeping Rose Quartz crystals in every room in your home fills it with a gentle loving and calming energy.
Rose Quartz is also a great crystal to use for family and friendship magic, to keep the bond between you all strong and true. Hold your crystal in your hands and visualise you and your friends or family members together, or keep a crystal beside a photo of you all.
Face masks made of Rose Quartz have been found in Egyptian tombs, it is believed that the ancient Egyptians wore them to clear their complexions and prevent wrinkles. You can make a Rose Quartz elixir to use on your face, you never know it might work!
