Nibbling on a few fennel seeds or infusing some to make a tea after a large meal, relaxes our intestinal muscles and soothes the lining of the gut, helps your body absorb the nutrients from your food better, soothe underlying issues like leaky gut or IBS and reduces gas!
Fennel has numerous magical properties too –
Healing, protection, purification, courage, confidence, fertility, cleansing, initiation.
Here is a recipe we use that you can add to any tea, or just warm water….or have a teaspoon straight from the jar!
Fennel Syrup
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons fennel seeds
¼ cup honey
Instructions:
Crush up fennel seeds in a mortar and pestle or a spice grinder.
Put the fennel into a saucepan and cover with water.
Bring to a boil then lower to a simmer and warm for at least 30 minutes or until the liquid has halved.
Strain out seeds and pour the liquid back into the saucepan.
Add honey and stir until melted.
Pour into a sterilised jar and close.
Once cooled, keep refrigerated.
